"So, there's this plan for me to climb through some vents cause there are freaks blocking the halls... to get to the chemical lab... to get the chemicals we need. And apparently, I'm the only one small enough, and athletic enough, to help our little chemical queen. I'm completely terrified. Like everybody's expecting me to fail... including me. Battery's gonna die. One thing about the apocalypse, everybody brought their phones, but nobody thought to bring a charger."

Throughout the Series[]

Pre-Season[]

Zoe was best friends with Natalie Callaway, until she abandoned her when they got caught with alcohol, leaving Zoe to take all the blame. After this, Zoe stopped speaking to Natalie all together. She started dating LaShawn Devereux, and hanging out with Noodle Nelson.

LaShawn was captain of the basket ball team and Zoe would come to his practices, which was why they were both at school the Saturday of the explosion.

Season 1[]

Detention

Zoe is first seen with her boyfriend LaShawn Devereux, under the bleachers at Kent High School. She and LaShawn are interrupted by their friend Noodle Nelson, who wants LaShawn to come over and join him on the basketball court. LaShawn agrees to come play in a few minutes and once Noodle's gone LaShawn gets out his insulin and Zoe has to look away as he injects it.

When the alarm goes off warning of a containment breach at the Keller Chemical Plant, she is seen walking over to the court, hand in hand with LaShawn. They believe it is just a drill, and Zoe even goes so far as to make fun of Natalie Callaway for being neurotic and wanting to follow the rules, hinting at bad blood between the two. Then Mary Jones runs over to tell Coach that it isn't a drill the chemical plant is on fire.

As everyone heads down into the fallout shelter Zoe is walking beside Barrett McIntyre, who asks her out for dinner that Friday. She says that if someone doesn't answer a text that means no, and he responds that if she really wanted to say no she would have. She reminds him that she's dating the captain of the basket ball team, and when he continues to persist, she laughs saying that his money has gotten him into a few parties, but it isn't enough to get her.

In the fallout shelter the group talks about the situation at Keller and LaShawn comforts Zoe. When Diesel Turner decides to go back upstairs, everyone follows.

At the doors, most of the kids decide to risk it and go back outside; to head home mostly. Zoe wants to get home to her brothers, saying that her mom wouldn't be able to handle the situation and that her family needs her. LaShawn thinks it isn't safe to go outside and forcibly stops her from leaving. His reasoning gets her more and more upset until Barrett jumps in and calms her down enough that she decides to stay inside.

When the fog from the plant reaches the doors the group moves further into the school and Coach gives everyone something to do. Zoe, LaShawn, and Noodle head into the teachers lounge looking for a radio. Zoe and Noodle try to get a signal with their phones while LaShawn tries the radio, but none of them have any luck.

That night they all sleep in one room, Zoe and LaShawn get one of the couches.

Winds of Change

Zoe and the rest f the group discuss what could have happened to the kids who came back, while taking care of them. Zoe says that they smell as if they've been eating trash, and Noodle says maybe they have been. When Violet Adams suggests that maybe they came back because it was the only place left, Zoe gets upset that she's trying to scare everyone. Grover Jones reassures everyone that they can't know for sure about everyone outside.

Coach tells everyone to go back to bed, and they all head out of the shelter. Zoe and LaShawn go back to sleep on their couch.

The next morning Zoe heads into the bathroom and Natalie is already inside. She ignores her until Natalie asks when Zoe will get over their fight, and Zoe denies that anything has been going on. Natalie tells her that she didn't have a choice and Zoe tells her that she absolutely did. They argue about what happened, Zoe being upset that she was the one to get in trouble, Natalie says that her mother would never let her forget it and Zoe snaps back that since her own mom is a waitress it doesn't matter what she thinks. Natalie gets frustrated, saying the argument is pointless and leaves the bathroom.

Zoe and LaShawn go into one of the supply closets looking for a new sweater for LaShawn, since his is starting to smell, and she jokes that they could start dressing a like. They talk about her family and LaShawn reassures her that they're probably fine. When they hear a noise they assume it's Noodle, and LaShawn jokes that he'll kick his ass when he finds him. They go to leave the supply closet and LaShawn gets attacked by the janitor, Mr. H. He tries to bite LaShawn but LaShawn is able to pin him down and kill him by pressing a book down on his neck. As Zoe and LaShawn leave the supply closet they hear another noise and Zoe freaks out thinking that it's another crazy person that will attack them. LaShawn grabs a pipe and heads towards where the noise was coming from, he heads around the corer but nothing is there. They hear another noise behind them and LaShawn moves Zoe behind him and swings the bat, but stops when he sees it's just Mary and Grover, who were heading down to the basement to bring the sick kids some supplies. Grover asks why he has a weapon and LaShawn explains that he just had to kill Mr. H. because he had gone crazy and attacked him and Zoe. Zoe and LaShawn start rambling that his eyes were crazy and he was crazy strong and fast, and Grover cuts them off saying that need to tell the others and that they'll get Coach and talk about this upstairs.

After Grover and Mary escape from the fallout shelter the group of survivors discuss what happened with LaShawn and Zoe as well as what happened in the fallout shelter. They all argue about what to do next, Zoe holds LaShawn back when he tries to get at Barrett. Zoe asks Barrett what they should do, and he tells them what they need to do to improve their chances of survival, while he tries to fix the radio so they can call for help.

Secrets

LaShawn pulls Zoe into the supply closet and tells her that they have a problem; he's almost out of insulin.

The group gathers around Barrett's radio, Diesel tells them that he's finished boarding up all the entrances, and Natalie tells them they have about two weeks of food. Mary comes in telling them they won't last that long anyway, and talks about the 'Freaks's knowledge of where they are and that eventually they will get in. Zoe says that this "Freshman Chick" is really freaking her out. Once Mary leaves, Noodle makes a joke bout Mary being high and Natalie says she was thinking the same thing.

After they have Mary tied in one of the classrooms, Zoe remarks that Grover shouldn't even come out of the room. She says that if Mary can get sick from the 'Freaks' it means that they can get sick from her, so they should lock her up and stay away. LaShawn agrees, and the group launches into an argument over what to do with her. Barrett suggests that they can't trust Grover either and leaves the rest of them to think about it.

Later on in the cafeteria they continue their discussion, when Natalie defends Grover, Zoe snaps that it easy for any of them. LaShawn leaves, and again they fall silent.

At night Zoe sleeps on the couch and LaShawn sits with her, talking to Natalie.

Trapped

Grover tells everyone that Mary has escaped. Diesel hands out weapons, and they realize that Noodle isn't there. Zoe and LaShawn head for the gym, since that's the last place they know he was, and he doesn't know that Mary has escaped. When they reach the gym it's empty so they head for the locker room calling for him.

In the locker room they see that Noodle's locker has a smear of blood on it and they hear something coming from the same direction. LaShawn goes towards the noise leaving Zoe behind. She decides to walk further down the rows of lockers, and once she reaches the end she finds Mary eating Noodle. She drops her knife and tries to go out the emergency exit door but it wont open. Zoe screams for LaShawn and shoves Mar. Zoe jumps over a row of lockers, and runs directly into LaShawn. He asks what happened and she points in the direction of Noodle's body. When LaShawn goes to see Zoe tells him that they have too go and pulls him away. They run to the exit and Mary attacks LaShawn, he shoves her away and they are able to close the cage door between them and run out of the locker room.

They go into one of the bathrooms and only come out when they hear Violet and Barrett coming down the hall. They tell them that Noodle's dead and that they left Mary in the locker room, and Violet realizes that Grover was just headed over there.

After Grover captures Mary in the basement the group gathers to decide what to do with her. LaShawn and Zoe think they should kill her because of what she did to Noodle, but Grover wants to keep her alive because he believes that Mary is still in there somewhere. The group votes to keep her alive, and Zoe and LaShawn are upset about it., LaShawn threatens Grover that if he ever lies to them again he'll kill both Mary and Grover.

When Grover finds out that Barrett kept Mary alive so he could experiment on her he gets upset, and the group votes again, this time about whether or not they should be experimenting on her. LaShawn and Zoe still believe that killing her would have been the right thing.
